If the steering wheel light bar flashes red for too long, a voice prompt will be heard. You should take over steering immediately; otherwise, the vehicle will slow in your lane of travel and eventually brake to a stop, as well as prompt an Emergency-Certified OnStar Advisor to call into the vehicle to check on you. Super Cruise† and Adaptive Cruise Control† will disengage.
GM Expands Super Cruise Network to 750,000 Hands-Free Miles, Largest in North America
Then, at the touch of a button, the light bar on the steering wheel illuminated blue and then green, and Super Cruise was happening. Visually, the XT6 hasn't changed much since I last found myself behind the wheel of the 2020 model. The SUV is as handsome as ever with the automaker's angular aesthetic and hallmark vertical LED light signatures at either end.
IN MAX POWER MODE
Make sure you’re on a compatible road with clearly visible lane markings and that your camera and radar sensors aren’t covered, and ensure your eyes are on the road so the Driver Attention System detects you’re paying attention. With an attentive driver, and under the proper conditions, Super Cruise can permit hands-free operation of the vehicle. The technology functions with OnStar®† and uses real-time cameras, sensors, GPS and LiDAR map data to detect curves, helping to make long drives and commutes more comfortable. The XT6 is a quiet and comfortable cruiser with a solid suite of standard cabin tech and optional driver aid options. That said, the addition of Super Cruise this year shakes things up significantly.
POWER UP
Travel back in time during the 2024 outdoor car show season. When you’re named after the highest peak in North America, you strive to make trucks that set themselves apart and set themselves above. The all-electric First Ever GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 is built to tower above everything you thought an electric truck could be. The improvement comes courtesy of optimizing the pickup’s electric drivetrain, GMC said Tuesday. The announcement mirrors one fellow GM-brand Chevrolet recently made for its electric Silverado pickup. Super Cruise requires a working electrical system, cell reception and GPS signal.
DRIVER ASSISTANCE

After the initial Super Cruise trial included with vehicle purchase ends, it also requires an eligible OnStar®† plan (stand-alone Super Cruise plan). The 2023 Cadillac XT6 starts at $48,790 for the base front-drive Luxury spec, including the $1,195 destination charge. I'd recommend starting at the Premium Luxury trim level with its better V6 engine and optional Super Cruise, starting at $54,190 or $56,190 with all-wheel drive. The V6 receives an EPA estimate of 21 mpg combined on regular gas, breaking out to 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway for front-wheel drive or 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway for all-wheel drive. The more efficient four-cylinder is estimated at 23 mpg combined city and 27 highway, 21 city and 26 highway for FWD or AWD, respectively -- but sips more expensive premium fuel. That means the I4 is more expensive to operate annually than the V6, according to the EPA's cost calculation tools.
• There is no map information available for that portion of a controlled access road. Super Cruise may not be available or may disengage when active based on several operating conditions. Use the Super Cruise button on the steering wheel to view Driver Information Center (DIC) messages about system operation. In order to control acceleration and braking and maintain a driver-selected following gap time with Super Cruise, both Adaptive Cruise Control† and Forward Collision Alert† must be active. Visit the Super Cruise page to learn more about how this true hands-free driver-assistance technology can be used on compatible roadways. The white line will disappear once a driver has selected a route and the view on the touchscreen is showing the route as active.
Find out why updating your vehicle’s software can help you take full advantage of your GMC. That’s why Super Cruise has been enhanced for the new Sierra Denali and Denali Ultimate to function while trailering. The technology is compatible with trailers up to the allowable weight limits of both trucks (Lane Change on Demand and Automatic Lane Change are not available while trailering). Drivers must always pay attention to the road while using Super Cruise. Otherwise, the Driver Attention System will initiate three separate prompts until the driver returns their attention to the road. Classic, vintage and collectible cars are on display at weekly cruise nights and special event shows happening now through fall on Long Island.
“GM is all-in on safely deploying Super Cruise as we make the technology available on more vehicles, more roads and for more people to enjoy. A key part of that is expanding the road network — in this case nearly doubling it again — with LiDAR mapped highways. High precision LiDAR mapping gives us an operating domain where we are confident in Super Cruise’s abilities.”– Anantha Kancherla, GM vice president of ADAS. Available Cadillac Super Cruise offers the ease and convenience of hands-free driving on compatible highways. So whether it’s pulling a utility trailer for a home project or an RV for a camping trip, drivers not only have plenty of power under the hood but can let Super Cruise give their hands a rest while keeping their eyes on the road.

That alone makes Super Cruise something to talk about — while wondering how long it will be till such functionality is so standard it is taken for granted. As someone who still appreciates manual shifting, I hope that day doesn’t come too soon. Super Cruise works as well here as it did when it debuted back in 2018 on the CT6 sedan, rounding bendy highway segments confidently and reacting predictably to changes in traffic. However, the larger XT6 feels like it crowds the left edge of the lane, which makes it difficult to get truly comfortable in the heavy traffic situations where the tech would be most useful. Admittedly, the lanes around my neck of the woods are a touch narrow, but I'd love it if a future version of Super Cruise allowed me to tweak or trim lane-keeping margins on either side.
The GPS uses real-time corrections and map data to determine the vehicle’s location while the Lane Sensing Camera detects the marked lanes on the road to help the vehicle automatically steer and maintain lane position. Super Cruise is the first true hands-free driver assistance technology for compatible roads, and it’s now being offered on more Chevy vehicles than ever before. Select 2023 vehicles will now include additional features plus an expansion of compatible roads to bring your hands-free experience to the next level. Super Cruise† is the first true hands-free driver assistance technology for compatible roads and is now being offered on more GMC vehicles† than ever before. Super Cruise utilizes advanced technologies to provide the ease and convenience of hands-free driving, bringing your experience to the next level.
When the Super Cruise Symbol and steering wheel indicator turn green, you’re ready to go hands-free. Drivers can also let Super Cruise do the work of changing lanes when traveling on a compatible road. GM launched Super Cruise in 2017 with the Cadillac brand and has added capabilities, expanded Super Cruise-enabled routes and availability on more products since then. To date, approximately 10 million miles have been driven by customers using Super Cruise across the U.S. and Canada. Super Cruise will be available on 22 vehicles by 2023, including Cadillac LYRIQ10 and GMC HUMMER EV SUV11. Additional vehicles that offer versions of Super Cruise include the 2022 Cadillac XT612 and the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV13.
Once you are ready for Super Cruise to steer again, center the vehicle in the lane and wait for the steering wheel to turn green. You can remove your hands when the steering wheel is green. Let go of the wheel and enjoy hands-free driving on over 400,000 miles of compatible roads. All Super Cruise-equipped vehicles include 3 years of connectivity to support functionality, after which an eligible paid Super Cruise OnStar service plan is required.
